New to Feminism? Watch this!

Some newbies to feminism and to Rhul Fem Soc this year have been asking the usual and valid questions about feminism and what being a feminist means. It can be hard defining yourself or "coming out" as a feminist when there are so many misleading representations in the media about feminism and feminists. So anyway! Here is Elena (aka Monday Girl from Insanity Radio) responding to a woman who made a anti-feminism youtube video and sharing her thoughts on being a feminist.

  1. Excellent video Elena!

Feminism can seem so scary from the outside, but for me becoming a feminist, and particularly being active in feminist circles has been the complete opposite of scariness! Whilst every group has its less pleasant members, overwhelmingly I have felt supported and encouraged in feminist spaces and I just want everyone to experience the warm fuzzies I have got from that!

Not everyone wants to call themselves a feminist, as you say, and there are a lot of good reasons for that - many women do not feel represented by the mainstream feminist movement. But being anti-feminist because feminism is about hating men and not shaving your armpits is not a valid reason.

Love RHUL FemSoc - you guys constantly rock my socks! :)
